On Friday night with a 5-3 victory against Olimpija Ljubljana, Sapa Fehérvár AV19 managed to secure their spot in the EBEL play-offs for the first time in the club’s history, but there is no time to rest: EHC Linz is awaiting the team.
- We started the game well and we were sticking to our game plan early in the match which also resulted in scoring efficiency. Since Olimpija didn’t show much resistance early in the game, our players lost some of their concentration in the second period and the game became much more evenly fought. We pulled ourselves together for the closing period, we created many scoring chances but this didn’t really show in the result. The high number of shots on goal shows it accurately that neither of the teams excelled in their defensive work. We are happy about the fact that we managed to score two powerplay goals – summarized Sapa Fehérvár AV19’s assistant coach Lajos Énekes.
The assistant coach was quick to emphasize that the coaching staff is happy that the team was able to reach its primary goal for the season.
- After tonight’s game our primary source of happiness is that we have secured our spot in the play-offs. Yet we must be aware that much tougher opponents will await us there. We must take advantage of every possibility when we can prepare for those play-off games – said Lajos Énekes.
Sapa Fehérvár AV19 will be able to start its play-offf preparation on Sunday night against the Black Wings.
- Out of the league’s top teams, Linz’s playing style fits our game the best. We played several good and close games with them this season. Since this game is also part of our play-off preparation process, we should try to give secure, good performance with the fewest mistakes possible and with a simple game. These are not unreal expectations. We know that we will face one of the best teams in the EBEL, but if we stick to our game plan, we could achieve a good result. Our penalty-killing and powerplay units worked well against Olimpija, so they will remain the same for our game against Linz – said the assistant coach.
According to Lajos Énekes, no major line-up changes are likely but it is possible that Sapa Fehérvár AV19 will play with seven defensemen against the Black Wings.
